Lovely, lightweight top
I looooove this fabric--I got a ton of it at Goodwill Outlet ages ago. It's 100% cotton and a lovely semi-sheer, lightweight, soft weave with a cute navy-on-white block print look. I know it will be a summer dress, but with a little piece of it I made this top using New Look 6895, with the a hybrid between cap and puffy sleeves. I added a ruffle at the neck instead of doing a bias binding or a facing--ha, ha! Much easier way to finish it, after I cut the bias strips and ruffled them. I also added some pleats in the center belly area to make the gathering above the bust more flattering, and give it some more interest! I sewed them down and gave them sort of decorative top-stitching.

ReplyDeleteI love it! Especially the pleats, it's a great idea to avoid "frumpiness". Very flattering.
